As parents, we want our children to be happy. In fact, we invest a lot of our time and energy in doing things to ensure their happiness. But try as we might, we can’t always protect our kiddos from doing things that may hurt themselves or others.
So when others wrong our children or our children do wrong themselves, how can we teach them about the healing power of forgiveness and God’s unconditional love? It’s easy, with this fun hands-on activity.
What you'll need:
- liquid dropper
- food coloring
- First, fill the jar halfway with water. This is where you explain to your kid/kiddos that when we are a part of Jesus’ family, we are pure and perfect.
- Then add two drops of food coloring. Explain to your child/children that when they do wrong to others or are wronged themselves, their spirit is burdened with anger or guilt from sin. (The color represents the bad (anger/guilt) stuff that they are holding on to.)
- Finally, fill the dropper with bleach and explain to your child/children that the dropper’s liquid represents Jesus’ forgiveness. Slowly add the bleach to the water in the jar. With each drop of bleach, the color of the water fades until it becomes clear again. Explain that we forgive each other because Jesus forgave us, then finish the activity by discussing how powerful forgiveness truly is.
This project can be done multiple times in a row to demonstrate to your kid/kiddos how cleansing the act of forgiveness can be.
Do you have a unique way to teach your child/children about forgiveness? If so, how?
